Newborn Photography in Columbus, Ohio | When Should You Book Your Session?

When to Book Your Newborn Photographer in Columbus, Ohio

Expecting a baby is one of the most exciting seasons in life, and many families begin planning how they want to remember those first precious days. One of the most common questions parents ask is, When should we book our newborn photographer?

If you’re searching for a newborn photographer in the Columbus area, the best time to reserve your session is actually during your pregnancy. This gives you time to find the perfect fit for your family.

Some details to consider when choosing a newborn photograher in Columbus, Ohio.

  1. What experience does the photographer have?

  2. Does the photographer have a professional studio that I will be taking my baby to?

  3. Does the photographer have an extensive portfolio I love?

  4. What is the process for choosing and selecting my images? What kind of editing is done?

As a maternity, newborn, and baby photographer serving families in Columbus, and all of central Ohio including New Albany, Worthington, Dublin, and Upper Arlington , I recommend booking your newborn session in your second trimester to ensure availability around your due date.

Why Booking Early Matters

Newborn photographers typically take a limited number of sessions each month to allow flexibility for babies who arrive earlier or later than expected. Because of this, calendars can fill up quickly. I limit the amount of sessions I schedule each month to ensure every family received a full luxury experience.

When you reserve your newborn photography session ahead of time, we will place your due date on the calendar for availability. Once your baby arrives, the exact session date will be scheduled within the ideal timeframe. Planning ahead also gives parents time to prepare for the session and ask questions about what to expect.

What’s the ideal time frame?

Newborn photography sessions in my Columbus Ohio studio are usually scheduled when babies are between 2-3 weeks of life. During this stage, babies are still very sleepy and naturally curl into those adorable newborn poses. This is the time when photographers can safely capture those tiny details parents love most—little fingers, delicate eyelashes, and peaceful sleepy expressions.

After the three week mark, babies become more alert and active, which can make traditional posed newborn photography more challenging. While beautiful images can still be captured later, the early days allow for the classic newborn style many parents love.

Creating a Relaxed Experience for New Parents

Preparing for a newborn photography session can feel overwhelming when you’re adjusting to life with a new baby. That’s why creating a calm, comfortable experience for families is such an important part of what I offer.

My newborn sessions are baby-led, meaning we follow your baby’s natural rhythm with plenty of time for feeding, soothing, and cuddling. Patience and safety are always the top priorities during every session.

One of the things that makes the experience even more special for many of my clients is the support of my professional hair and makeup artist team. They help moms feel confident and pampered before maternity sessions so they can fully enjoy the experience and feel beautiful in front of the camera.
